Our BAFE Qualified engineers can carry out the Installation, and commissioning of your fire extinguishers, as well as the annual maintenance and the extended service checks, within the accordance of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and the current British Standards.

Abbott Fire Protection are BAFE Qualified technicians, and can supply, commission and service your fire extinguishers. Based in Tameside, Greater Manchester we are able to serve businesses across the county and surrounding areas.

Fire extinguishers need to be reliable in the event of a fire, to ensure compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, it is advised and required by insurers that fire extinguishers are serviced & commissioned by a competent person, such as those who are BAFE qualified.

Annual Servicing:

All fire extinguishers are serviced to British Standards, and include service labels, o rings, tamper seals, gauge seals and safety pins.

Extended Servicing:

Most fire extinguisher require an extended service every 5 years, this involves completely discharging the contents, removing the cylinder head and carrying out an internal inspection for signs of corrosion or damage to the lining. They are then refilled and re-pressurised before being put back into service.

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers require an extended service every 10 years. This is where the fire extinguisher is discharged and a hydrostatic pressure test is carried out to ensure it is compliant with vessel pressure legislation.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, is the legislation that requires businesses, HMO’s and other non-domestic buildings to have a Fire Risk Assessment, and to review it periodically. It is the responsibility of the “Responsible Person” to ensure that the fire risk assessment has been completed and that it is sufficient.

The the order states that the fire risk assessment should be completed by a competent person, and therefore provision is made for a suitably qualified third party to complete the fire risk assessment. Although the order gives provision for a third party to complete the fire risk assessment, the Responsible Person cannot designate the responsibility for ensuring the suitability of the fire risk assessment, therefore checks should be made to ensure that the risk assessor is competent.

Abbott Fire Protection’s Fire Risk Assessors are suitably qualified, former local authority fire fighters and fire safety enforcement officers, who hold further qualifications and are members of organisations such as The Institute of Fire Engineers and The Institute of Fire Safety Managers.

Fire Alarms

Fire alarm systems are an important part of a building’s fire safety provision, they protect people on your premises in event of a fire breaking out. They can also detect smoke and alert occupants prior to a fire being noticed. It is important that your fire alarm system has regular maintenance and is tested to make sure it is in working order.

Abbott Fire Protection works with suitably qualified and insured engineers to provide the necessary maintenance and installation to ensure the safety of your workplace, and the compliance of your building in relation to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Emergency Lighting

Any failure of the mains power supply could limit the effective of escape in an emergency situation, therefore provisions have to be made for emergency lighting to ensure that there is enough illumination for a safe evacuation.

It is important to ensure that the emergency lighting is in a working condition and that the back-up battery is capable of lasting the full required duration in the event of a power failure and emergency situation arising.

Abbott Fire Protection’s qualified engineers conduct routine testing as well maintenance and repair should any remedial work be required.

Training

Abbott Fire Protection are able to offer fire safety training through out trusted partners, including both fire safety awareness and fire marshal training, courses can be bespoke to your premises and can also include practical elements such as fire extinguisher operation with the option of live fire training.

We can also offer first aid and annual basic life support training, including the use of Automated External Defibrillators, ideal for offices, leisure premises such as gyms and healthcare premises where there is a CQC requirement for mandatory training.
